If you don’t consider yourself as important and not worth that much and less than other people. If you have little self-confidence and assume in advance that something will not work out, then you have a negative self-image.

Thinking in images
We think in images. We do this to make life easier.
We have images of others: of our partner, of our family, and of friends and acquaintances. But we also form an image of someone on the street or in a shop. By this we say of someone that he is intelligent, or maybe a little stupid, that he is neat, or conversely very chaotic, that he is attentive or forgetful.

The image we have of someone largely determines how we treat that other person. If we don’t think someone is neat, we won’t lend something to them so quickly, for example. And with someone we find boring, we won’t go on holiday that quickly.

Our self-image
We also have an image of ourselves: our self-image. Unfortunately, we are much less aware of this image than we are of other people’s images. Our self-image, however, largely influences what we do or don’t do.
For example: If you think you’re boring, you’re less likely to approach someone at a party. And if you think you’re stupid, you won’t start a (new) education anytime soon. So how we think about ourselves largely determines how we behave. And how we behave affects how we think about ourselves.

Circular effect
This will put you in a circle. For example, if you think you’re boring, you’ll act boring and think you’re boring even more, which will make you act even more boring, and so on. Such a circle also arises if, for example, you consider yourself stupid or ugly.
So your self-image has a lot of influence. That is why it is very important that you know whether your self-image is correct. It would be a shame if you act dumber than you are. And it doesn’t help you to think you’re smarter than you are either. Because then you will never pass the chosen course and become deeply unhappy.

It is therefore very important that our self-image corresponds as much as possible to reality. No more positive than reality and no more negative.

Treatment at Psychologist The Hague
The treatment is aimed at making your self-image more in line with reality.
First we will see what you think about yourself. Then we look at what is correct and what is not and then we will adjust your image.
